Dalmatino's
Once a month, D and I have "date night". The point of it is to try to do something that we wouldn't normally do, not to pretend we are on a date! That's a bit of a stretch. ;-)
Last night, we tried a local restaurant near home called Dalmatino. Apparently, the two owner brothers are from Dalmatia, a coastal part of Croatia, and well, Wednesday nights they have a "Croatian dinner with live music".
Croatian food, for those who haven't experienced it, is kinda of Polish meets Mediterranean. As we are still in winter (technically for another few days anyway), the 3-course set menu ($38) was a little, well, heavy. That said, the cabbage rolls were excellent, and brought back memories of growing up in a cold, snowy Edmonton! Of course, walking out into a balmy, spring evening quickly reminded Dorothy she wasn't in Kansas!
Here's hoping that they lighten up their menu for the upcoming warm weather . . .

KLS as a Simpson character
As part of the new direction of this blog, I thought I'd put up a photo (that isn't a fuzzy mountain-biking one). Here's me "Simpson-ised".
Hey, one step at a time :-)
Hey, one step at a time :-)
OK, I've realised why I don't update this as much as I should (and as I constantly promise too).
This website was set up in 2000 as a "family" website, so I could post photos of what was happening in Melbourne for my family (who are predominately in Canada) to see.
However, over time, more and more people, particularly people I worked with, got to know of the website. And blogging got more popular. And well, one of the realities of the internet is that anyone can watch it. And therefore, I got a little spooked by what I would put up. For example, I didn't like putting up photos of myself (notice they are always of someone else). And I found it creepy when *some* work people would know about my latest weekend or adventure because they'd been to the website. It was a little too much like "stalking" to me.
But of course, this is 2007. I control this! So, I'm changing the premise.
While it will seem contradictory - I am going to make this website less personal, and more about me. Or to quote the latest Web 2.0 lingo -- make it more "ambiently intimate". You find out more about what I'm thinking, doing, reading and less about my friends and family and my house etc.
Trust me -- it will work! :-)
